Sneak Peek - Day 4!
Sneak Peek - Day 3!
Sometimes titles just come to me. Like this one. First came the Petit-Four bit, a natch given this is the forth main book in the Lora Weaver series. But also perfect because I knew I wanted part of the mystery to revolve around a bakery. And I wanted the bakery to be in Westmount, like the Petit Lapin one in the pics.
When I first stumbled into the Petit Lapin I was charmed. I loved the colours and the ambiance. And most of all, its origin story of a mom wanting her allergy-sensitive son to have a pretty cake for his birthday and finding not many on offer, so she baked one herself and then thought other kids should have pretty cakes, too, so she opened a shop! And pretty soon, she was making more delicious allergy-friendly goodies. Very cool.
Then there was the bakery name. The Petit Lapin. I mean, it was kismet. Like Lora having a cosmic connection to the place every time Laurent called her his petit lapin.
Plus, there was the location. In Westmount, exactly the neighbourhood where I wanted to set the next book.
Once I had my inspiration, though, imagination took over and the Petit-Four patisserie was born. I made it bigger with cupcakes and such more like the ones in my inspiration pic, and I put it basically on Rue Sherbrooke Ouest. Whereas the Petit Lapin at the time pictured here was on a side street. Very much like the one where Laurent and Lora stop the car to, wait, sorry, of course you haven’t read the book yet so you don’t know that scene, so I’ll stop there.
As for the Score part of the title. That bit I can’t explain, yet. But you’ll get it after you read the book:)
Sneak Peek - Day 2!
Sneak Peek - Day 1!
When I started writing the Lora Weaver books, there were several things I wanted to do:
1) Create a series.
2) Have Lora evolve with each main book.
3) Craft the mystery in each main book to mirror an important theme in Lora’s life journey.
4) Have the storylines be propelled by Lora’s natural affinity for helping others.
5) Infuse the books with joy and fun.
Those weren’t all of my goals—because this gal knows a thing or two about making lists—but the top ones are in there.
Then along came the mini mysteries, the in-between books, which were supposed to be smaller, contained stories that could be read around the holidays. Only it turns out they also moved Lora’s life forward. In smaller ways sometimes, but important ones.
Case in point: The Easter Egg Ennui.
(Now here’s where if you haven’t read The Easter Egg Ennui, you may want to scoot ahead because I’ll be talking spoilers for that book. As vaguely as I can. But still. Spoiler alert!)
In The Easter Egg Ennui, Lora finds herself in a teeny bit of trouble when she helps out with a children’s Easter play Laurent and Camille’s tante Claudette is organizing. Which, naturally, leads to Lora spending time around tante Claudette, who you may remember from The Pas de Deux book likes to dabble in tea reading. In fact, she fancies herself quite good at predicting things for people. And by the end of their Easter time together, Lora finds herself the recipient of a rather veiled but compelling prediction. Especially compelling when you’re a romantic like Lora who loves a good mystery. And when her enigmatic boss/mentor receives his own prediction, let’s just say she’s anxious to compare notes.
Only, Laurent being Laurent, what with his annoying habit of making himself unreadable when he feels like it, is taking his sweet time sharing. So what does Lora do about that? Well, you have to read The Petit-Four Score to find out, but you can definitely be sure Lora’s not about to let him off the hook that easily.
Which means, there’s an important thread from the Easter book that continues in The Petit-Four Score. There’s also another important thread from The Ménage à Trois book that comes up again.
But that’s the thing about a series, things keep tying together like weaving a tapestry.
So what can you expect in The Petit-Four Score?
Well, I can’t tell you. This is a spoiler-free “making of” version, after all. But I can say, C&C has to handle a dodgy divorce case, twists and turns ensue, and there’s lots of relationship stuff. Plus, we get to know some characters a lot better.
And at this point, it’s my fave book, but then I may say that about every new book:)
